About Battlefields of the American Revolution

A Practical Guide to Revolutionary War Battlefields

Battlefields of the American Revolution was created as a practical companion for travelers, history enthusiasts, and anyone interested in visiting the landscapes connected to the Revolutionary War.

The goal of this project is not to document every detail, debate, or military movement of the conflict. Entire libraries already exist for that purpose. Instead, this site focuses on the experience of the places themselves.

Each guide is designed to help visitors understand:

  • how to reach a battlefield or historic site
  • what survives today
  • where major actions unfolded
  • what landmarks and terrain features to look for
  • why the location mattered during the Revolution

Many historic sites provide excellent background history, but practical interpretation is often limited once visitors arrive. Important ridges, roads, river crossings, artillery positions, and defensive lines can be difficult to recognize without context.

This project aims to bridge that gap.

The American Revolution unfolded across farms, forests, rivers, ports, mountain passes, and small towns stretching across an entire continent. Some battlefields are preserved as major national parks. Others survive quietly along roadside markers, hiking trails, or overlooked fields. Together, they tell the story of a conflict that reshaped the Atlantic world and helped define the future of the United States.
